17 victims of car crash in Imbali in hospital now, children among them

A bakkie and a heavy truck were involved in a head-on crash on Monday. One man was reported dead and 17 other people, including several children, suffered light to moderate wounds after the two vehicles collided on France Main Road, France Location in Imbali, KwaZulu Natal.

ER24 official said that paramedics responded to the incident at approximately 8:00 a.m. The bakkie and the truck were in the middle of the road when the rescuers arrived. Among the car crash victims, there was a number of children aged between 7 and 18.

“Paramedics set up a triage area and began assessing the patients. One man, believed to be in his 40s, was found lying trapped inside the passenger seat of the bakkie. Unfortunately, the man had already succumbed to his injuries and he was declared dead on the scene,” ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said.

All the patients were provided with adequate treatment right on the scene. Ambulance crews transported all of them to nearby hospitals without life-threatening injuries.

The reason that let the accident happen is to be examined by the police.
