A careless mother of two children is wanted by the Odendaalsrus police in the Free State on a charge of child abuse after she left her 16-month-old baby with a 10-year-old child without food, nappies or the clinic card.
“The mother allegedly left the baby with a 10-year-old child under the pretense that she was going to town and never returned,” the police spokesperson, Captain Stephen Thakeng, said.
The Free State child service took the little baby in a Matjhabeng orphanage but later the child was handed over to a grandmother residing in Thabong, Welkom.
The Free State police are looking into the matter. The mother was preliminary accused of child abuse and she is likely to be deprived of parental rights.
