Simon’s Town firefighters saved dog that got stuck under large boulder

Simon’s Town fire department officers rescued a dog that got stuck under a huge boulder after chasing down a dassie rat in Simon’s Town.

A Cape Medical Response dispatcher received a request for help from a dog owner who was desperate for the rescue service to assist him with the hound wedged tightly under the boulder.

“Upon arrival the dog was found about three metres deep under a very large boulder. He had been chasing a dassie when he wiggled himself into the crevice and was not able to free himself,” Cape Medical Response said in a post on Facebook.

Rescue service workers along with the firefighters managed to hook the dog, named Simon, by his collar to bring him closer to the rescuers using a ceiling hook from the fire department and a dog-catching device from the SPCA.
