Thug shot dead by police in Randburg hijacking

A group of four criminals attempted to hijack a car, as a result, one man was shot and killed and the other three accomplices were detained by the Randburg police after a high-speed chase on Friday morning.

“Shots were fired where after one suspect was fatally shot, while two sustained injuries and were taken to hospital under police guard,” the police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said.

It has also become known that two other hijackers were captured without injuries.

Captain Mavela Masondo said that police traffic patrols were on standby after a number of alleged hijackings were reported in Randburg. It was said that a white Volkswagen SUV driven by a highly suspicious man was spotted and then followed by the patrol.

The suspects facing charges of attempted hijacking, possession of hijacked vehicle and possession of unlicensed firearms will stand trial at Randburg Magistrate’s Court.
