The Department of Home Affairs has released a statement urging the residents of South Africa to be vigilant. The upcoming general election is used by a scammer band who gain access to the houses pretending to be home affairs officials and rob the owners.
“We don’t come to your homes to validate your IDs, you come to us, as citizens, for IDs and other services,” acting Home Affairs Director-General Thulani Mavuso reminded.
The so-called ‘election robbers’ show documents with Home Affairs letterheads to unsuspecting residents and claim that they need to verify the validity of their IDs for the election. Once inside, they rob the victims of all valuables.
