A young man, aged 20, was bitten by his own dogs in the backyard of his house. A neighbour, being a witness of this horrific incident, called an ambulance.
Bester Maree from ACSU Security service who also appeared to be the victim’s neighbour said that it was one of the most gruesome sights that he had ever seen.
When the paramedics arrived on the scene they found a lifeless Ruan van Staden’s body. His dogs were still dragging it around the yard tearing their owner to pieces. It happened at about 11 p.m. on Thursday.
“There was blood all over the yard and he was lying in a pool of blood. I saw that the two dogs had their jaws clutched around Van Staden’s neck and head,” Bester Maree said.
He also attempted to chase the furious dogs away with his shotgun but didn’t succeed.
Paramedics could not get to the victim because they feared they would also be attacked. Eventually, Maree and his colleague, Hennie Engelbrecht, shot and killed the dogs.
“It was still a mystery why the dogs unexpectedly turned on their own owner,” Maree said.
