Durban railway service made terrible discovery: newborn child found dead in plastic bag

A newborn baby has been found dead in Umbilo. The child was wrapped by his mother in a plastic bag and left by a railway line, according to Durban police.

Upon getting a call from a passerby, Rescue Care Paramedics rushed to the scene but, upon arrival, they had to register the death of the newborn.

“The baby had been placed in the packet and while the umbilical cord had been cut, it was present. Unfortunately, paramedics assessed the newborn and he showed no signs of life,” the Rescue Care operations director Garrith Jamieson said.

It is clearly understood that the woman just wanted to escape the responsibility of being a mother but decided to solve the problem in the most radical way.

Jamieson highlighted the fact that “this was becoming a frequent occurrence”. He urged people to drop off unwanted babies at hospital, or police station, or other facilities.
