Joburg taxi drivers held ‘memorial’ for murdered colleagues

A video captured by eyewitnesses shows the taxi community members firing in memory of the drivers who died recently in Johannesburg and surrounding cities.

The shooting scene near the Eastgate Shopping Mall in Johannesburg came about on Wednesday. A group of men discharged countless rounds – right in front of the metro police officers.

“The shooting came during “rituals” for the murder of one of two men killed at the weekend,” the police clarified.

“Two JMPD patrol vehicles blocked off traffic lanes at Allum Road and Cumberland Street, near Eastgate, for a cleansing ceremony just before 1 p.m.,” the Metro police spokesperson Chief Superintend Wayne Minnaar said.
