A 19-year-old woman whose baby was decapitated is going to sue the Gauteng health department.
The woman felt abdominal pain during her pregnancy. She went to the general practitioner a few weeks before going to labour. The doctor advised her to go to hospital as there was something wrong with the baby.
The woman went to Tambo Memorial hospital where doctors made a scan. It confirmed that the baby was abnormal but a heartbeat was heard.
During the childbirth, the baby was not coming out and the doctor used forceps. That’s when she said she saw the head of her baby without the rest of the body. Afterwards, she spent 24 hours with the child’s body still inside.
The mother is planning to sue the Gauteng health department.
