An extremely tragic incident might not have happened, but an odd chance defined the 17-year-old Bloemfontein school pupil’s fate.
The incident occurred at around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday along the N8 in Botshabelo.
The police announced that the teenager died after the ‘wheel of a bakkie hit his head’ on Wednesday.
Relying on the Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Thabo Covane’s words, the driver of a white Toyota Hilux informed police that he felt the bakkie losing balance.
“The wheel of the vehicle came out, rolled forward and hit the 17-year-old learner. The visible injury indicated that either the tyre or the rim hit the learner on the right side of the head,” said Lieutenant-Colonel Thabo Covane.
It is unfortunate, but the rescue crew that responded to an emergency call, confirmed that the pupil died on the scene.
The principal of Calculus School, who went to the scene, identified the teenager as one of her scholars.
