Cop killer sentenced to life imprisonment in North West

Lieutenant-General Godfrey Lebeya approved a life sentence for a cop killer:

“One criminal will no longer pose any danger to ordinary people on the streets.”

Baliki Mogapi — a 33-year-old Constable — was shot in the head when he and his partner from Hartbeesfontein SAPS responded to an alarm at FNB ATM in 2016.

Officers came to the scene and saw the security company car parked nearby. They decided to talk to the security, but the car was taken over by the criminals.

Bathobile Colesto Knohliso, 36, got out of the vehicle and fired a single shot which killed Mogapi.

The Hawks’ Priority Violent Crimes unit and the provincial Tactical Response Team arrested seven suspects in and around Pretoria and Katlehong. They also seized two handguns and two cars. Charges against six other suspects have been dropped.

Khohliso was jailed on Wednesday by the high court, sitting in Klerksdorp.
