A gang of four women and one man gained entry into Durban North home and made off with a laptop.
According to Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios, gang members arrived at the residential property at about 10am. The driveway gates were opened by the domestic workers. The suspects introduced themselves as bank staff coming to see the property for sale.
One of the suspects asked to use the bathroom and the domestic worker left the suspects alone in the house while stepping outside.
It was only when the resident got back home and could not find her laptop, that the domestic workers informed her about the “bank staff” who had arrived earlier.
Mathios advised residents to instruct the domestic workers not to let anyone onto the property without prior instruction.
“Homeowners need to warn their domestic staff about this incident, and to remind them not to allow any people posing as bank staff, contractors, or municipal meter readers onto the premises. Even if a plumber or electrician is scheduled to arrive to complete work at home, make sure that your domestic worker knows the person’s name so they can correctly identify the contractor and contact you when they arrive.”
