The reason that possibly caused a crane flipping proved to be a hailstorm.
As Westdene’s and a Sophiatown’s residents’ group wrote on its Facebook page, at around 9 p.m. the crane that was laying slabs at a construction on the corner of Perth and Lewes roads toppled over.
Eyewitnesses to the incident said the fall of the crane caused no significant damage nor injuries.
“This happened about two hours after the storm had passed. It might have been that the heavy rain compromised the out-trigger footing. Speculation though,” Anton Mostert Lokanath von Reumont said.
