The family members of domestic abuse victim Nikita Lewis said they still cannot come to terms with the murder of their child. As it has been reported earlier, the woman was stabbed to death by her ex-boyfriend. That day she was seeking refuge at a local care centre. The Nikita’s family cannot believe it happened to their only daughter. Her mother and grandmother are in agony and heartbroken.
According to the hearings in the Western Cape High Court, Nikita’s mother, Bonita Lewis, has had to quit her job to care for Nikita’s grandmother. As social worker Litessa Antony says, Bonita told her that she was grieving:
“I look at mothers and daughters in the street, at church, in the bus, everywhere and my heart bleeds; I will never have the opportunity to interact with my daughter. I am a grandmother, but today I am a mother (to Nikita’s eight-year-old son) which is not age appropriate, it is emotionally and physically exhausting.”
24-year-old Nikita Lewis was stabbed 34 times by Simbarashe. He had stalked the woman while she was seeking refuge at the Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women and Children in Manenberg.
