A drastic case of sexual assault had been reported by the Gauteng Department of Education on Tuesday.
According to police officials and the Gauteng Department of Education, three pupils at a Soweto school were suspended after they allegedly had raped their classmate at an orientation camp. A victim is a Grade 8 girl whose identity has not been made public in the interests of an investigation.
The incident occurred at Fons Luminis Secondary School’s induction camp in De Deur over the weekend.
The education department spokesperson, Steve Mabona, confirmed the suspension of the three pupils over the incident and that the incident had since been reported to the local police station.
“Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi will visit the school on Tuesday morning and address pupils following the incident,” he also claimed.
“Our psychosocial team will provide counselling to the victim and other pupils accordingly,” Steve Mabona said.
