According to police officials, six people aged between 33 and 59 were arrested and placed in a temporary detention facility. They are going to face trial in the Kempton Park Magistrate Court for alleged drug dealing after police confiscated drugs worth an estimated R10 million over the weekend.
A Gauteng police spokesperson captain Mavela Masondo stated that drug squad searched six houses in Edenvale and Kempton Park in Ekurhuleni where drugs were found.
A prime suspect, the 33-year-old male, was detained at the first house in Edenvale on Saturday. Meanwhile, three other men were arrested at other houses.
”Further investigation led police to three more houses in Kempton Park where a 30-year-old woman believed to be the wife of the main suspect was arrested,” Mavela Masondo said.
“A second female suspect aged 27 was also arrested in one of the houses in Birchleigh, Kempton Park, where more drugs were seized. Police believe the house is utilized for storage and sales. Cash and drugs in both raw and processed form worth a combined estimated value of over R10 million were seized,” Mavela Masondo concluded.
There was another drug targeted raid over the weekend, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, known as the Hawks, captured four men at a house allegedly used as a drug lab to manufacture Mandrax in Braamfischerville, Soweto.
Investigators raided the house confiscating chemicals, equipment, and a large amount of Mandrax tablets valued at several millions of rand.
The men aged between 35 and 59 are expected to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate Court on charges of manufacturing and dealing in drugs.
