Car crash accident took lives of four in Lyndenburg

A total of five people were killed after their cars collided on the N4 in Lydenburg.

A terrible car crash incident occurred at around 4 p.m. on Sunday on the N4 between the Samora Machel and Hendrina off-ramps near Middelburg, Mpumalanga. A driver of an Isuzu double cab lost control of his vehicle in the rain and then veered into oncoming traffic.

Another car was driven by Gretli Steyn. Also, her husband Piet Steyn, and their children Marli and Pieter were in the vehicle traveling along the highway from Lydenburg.

“The driver of an Isuzu double cab lost control of his vehicle in the rain and then veered into oncoming traffic. Authorities have confirmed that the Isuzu was carrying five occupants, including a four-month-old baby,” said eyewitness.

The accident caused heavy traffic delays. The emergency situation imposed by the traffic police was canceled only a few hours later.

It is reported that the Isuzu driver, who was traveling from Malelane, had picked up two hitchhikers just before the accident. The driver, one unknown female, and one unknown male both died upon impact.

A four-month-old baby was rushed to Life Midmed Hospital by bystanders but later passed away. The baby’s mother remains in an intensive care unit.

According to reports, the Steyn family was seriously injured. However, they are in a noncritical condition right now.
