CT man, 33, arrested for reconnecting electricity for R2K bribe

A 33-year-old man has been arrested for soliciting a bribe of R2000 from a Kenilworth resident. As a Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba said in a statement, the offender is employed by City Power contractor Bvelela Engineering. The man will face the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for charges of extortion and corruption.

The suspect was reported to demand the victim to pay him R2000 in order to reconnect the power supply that has been disconnected over a whole week. The complainant told the cheater that she only had R1000, then the suspect reconnected the electricity supply and collected the money.

The man has been arrested by the City’s Group Forensic and Investigation Services (GFIS) and the members of the Hawks team after the victim’s report.
