The South African Revenue Service has profiled and detained a suspected female drug smuggler. The women wanted to carry luggage with cocaine valued at over R3 million. As a SARS spokesperson Sicelo Mkosi pointed out, the drug smuggler was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport yesterday.
“Following months of intense surveillance and observing various flights, yesterday the South African Revenue Service customs officers, stationed at OR Tambo International Airport, successfully profiled a suspected drug smuggler and intercepted her luggage,” says Sicelo Mkosi.
The woman arrived from Sao Paulo and checked-in a bag weighing 23 kilograms, despite the airport’ decision to prohibit baggage.
“The officers then found her checked-in bag on the carousel. During a physical inspection of the bag, two backpacks filled with 10.645 kg of suspected cocaine were discovered and the woman was immediately detained,” said Mkosi.
The local police station registered a criminal case of drug smuggling.
