Seven-month-old girl killed along with her father

A double intentional homicide in Veeplaas, Port Elizabeth.

The Port Elizabeth police officials stated that an awful tragedy took place at the victims’ house in Mabaso Street, Veeplaas on Wednesday night when a whole family was sleeping in their beds.

“A 40-year-old father and his baby were murdered in a suspected hit-style murder,”  the police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge, on Thursday said.

By Captain Andre Beetge words, two suspects at about 10:20 pm kicked a house door open and broke inside.

The murderers, having entered the house, went to the bedroom and killed the 40-year-old father, Siyabulela Vena, and his 7-month-old daughter Asesakhe Vena with several shots.

“Both father and daughter sustained multiple wounds and passed away on the scene,” Captain Andre Beetge said.

The 32-year-old mother  managed to escape the evil fate, killers did not wound her because she hid under blankets during the shooting.

The two suspects fled the scene without taking any valuables.

“The SAPS strongly condemns the killing of children. The protection of our children has a nationwide focus and is a priority for the SAPS. We are calling on our community to come forward with information that could assist with the identification of the motive and suspects involved in this double murder,” Motherwell Cluster Commander, Major General Dawie Rabie said.

The police are investigating the case of the double murder.
