A senior Economic Freedom Fighters member has been accused of a 39-year-old female colleague rape. The victim had reported the incident to the police and then an investigation was underway. The politician is known to hold an influential position within the party’s Capricorn region in Limpopo.
The incident happened two years ago, in November 2017, and the case was reopened by the National Prosecuting Authority at the Lebowakgomo police station last week.
Provincial EFF chairperson Jossie Buthane confirmed the matter and refrained from commenting until the rape case would be finalized.
“As for now, the member is innocent before our eyes until proven otherwise by a court of law,” Buthane pointed out.
According to the police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, the EFF official had allegedly bought drinks for himself and the complainant in a bar and then raped her.
As Mojapelo said, the EFF official was not in police custody pending a decision by the National Prosecuting Authority of South Africa.
The department is investigating the case now.
