Blazing bus caused passengers’ burns

Seven passengers of A Golden Arrow bus were injured after an accidental fire occurred inside the vehicle on Friday morning.

The accident have happened in Somerset West near Waterstone Village Mall. Passengers were on their way from Harare to Khayelitsha.

The police official reported 66 people were on the bus at the moment when the fire started.

“Emergency personnel on the scene assisted the injured women, (who) both suffered slight injuries. It is believed a mechanical fault was the cause of the fire,” the police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana said.

The deliberate arson attempts that increased in Cape Town over the past few months have nothing to do with this accident.

When the firefighters arrived at the scene the bus was literally full of fire.

“The fire was extinguished and the firefighters assisted with the clean-up operation,” the Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Theo Layne said.

According to the Golden Arrow spokesperson Bronwen Dyke-Beyer, the company will start an internal investigation to find out the reason behind the fire.
