Cape Town police department is investigating an assault on a 60-year-old cyclist. According to the video recording and CP central police report, Bernard Berman was cycling near Rugby Road on Table Mountain when a suspect armed with a knife attacked him and robbed. Then the unknown suspect rushed away immediately.
Police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana reported: “The suspect fled the scene with the victim’s mountain bicycle. The victim was transported to a medical facility for treatment.”
The local cycling community also reacted to this violent case on its Facebook page: “One of our members was attacked, stabbed and robbed of his mountain bike on Table Mountain at about 7.45am (yesterday). The suspect stole his black Canyon (brand) full-suspension mountain bike.”
While we are focused on another attack against a fellow cyclist,I'd like to raise the subject of bicycle tracking again….
“We would like to scour the crime hot spot to see how many people are living in the area. We need a large group of volunteers to comb the area,” said Melanie Vogel, The Table Mountain Bikers group spokesperson.
Residents and volunteers will meet at the top of Molteno Road at 6pm today.
