Ladysmith, Uthukela District of KwaZulu-Natal and other three provinces suffered the consequences of a violent storm.
Saturday night became fateful for residents of Ladysmith and its vice counties. The appalling storm accompanied by the destructive wind has destroyed many buildings, most of the rooftops were blown away.
“We are just praying that we get help, as we are homeless after the storm on Saturday evening,” Umbulwane resident Hlengiwe Msimanga said.
As a result, many Ladysmith residents lost their homes and were left with no clothes or food. Disaster teams have been working at the scene. KwaZulu-Natal cooperative governance and traditional affairs department (Cogta) MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube has provided its assistance.
“We would like to assure the affected communities that we will do all in our power to mitigate the impact of the families affected. We have activated all our teams and other intervener departments. Those families that have had to be evacuated from the area in the wake of yesterday’s [Saturday] ferocious storm have already been accommodated in a community hall,” Dube-Ncube said in the statement.
According to the officials, the total of those affected by the storm has not been confirmed.
